Abstract	This report presents the perspectives of three educators from historically black colleges and universities on the advancement of community service and service-learning in higher education. Each of the essays is introduced by a leader in the service-learning community. They include: (1) "Curriculum Transformation and Service Learning" (Carl H. Marbury, with an introduction by Edgar Beckham), which highlights programs at Rutgers University (New Jersey), Providence College (Rhode Island), and Stillman College (Alabama) designed to overcome obstacles to curriculum transformation; (2) "Student Participation in Community Service and Service Learning" (Rosalyn Jones, with an introduction by Denise Beal), which examines the service-learning component of the core curriculum at Johnson C. Smith University (North Carolina); and (3) "Building Authentic Community Partnerships" (Claudette McFadden, with an introduction by Yolanda Moses), which outlines guidelines for building school-community partnerships in service learning. The common theme throughout is that service-learning requires significant transformations of traditional structures, learning processes, people, and relationships. (MDM)
